This is another of the concerts of the Opus Amadeus Chamber Music Festival, an event that has been mounted since 2012 by Artisan Organizasyon. In this recital, two Hungarian musicians will be playing music for the cimbalom and clarinet. Their programme will consist of arrangements of works by Bartók, Bach, the Hungarian composer Ákos Zarándy (1982-) and Mozart.
The cimbalom is an instrument used in Hungarian folk music – especially gypsy music – that sounds rather like a Turkish kanun (zither) but is in fact an enlarged dulcimer played with two hammers. It was popularised by the composer Zoltán Kodály in his 1926 orchestral suite Háry János. Here is the instrument’s [Wikipedia entry] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cimbalom).
