First, the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Nil Venditti, will play the overture to Vincenzo Bellini’s 1831 opera Norma, the 1937 Concerto for Orchestra by the Italian composer Alfredo Casella (1883-1947) and the overture to Beethoven’s opera Fidelio, originally titled Leonora (Leonora, written in 1805, was later rewritten as Fidelio and premiered in 1814). They will then accompany pianist Can Çakmur, violinist Pelin Halkacı Akın and cellist Çağ Erçağ in Beethoven’s Triple Concerto in C major, Opus 56. Beethoven’s Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano, commonly known as his Triple Concerto, was written between 1803 and 1804, and was first performed in 1808; this is the only concerto Beethoven ever completed for more than one solo instrument. The number of concertos for this combination of instruments is quite small, and Beethoven’s is the most famous.
The concert will be preceded (from 19:00 to 19:30) by a talk by Aydın Büke and Ali Pınar on the works that are to be performed.
