Taking its inspiration and name from Argentinian artist Nicolás Bacal’s black-pencil work, Mehmet Ali Uysal’s latest solo exhibition Don’t Abandon Me delves into the artist’s personal memories. The images are all recreated and collated memories of parts of the 14 houses where Uysal has lived since his childhood.
His art is a way to hold on to elusive memories. As Uysal say: ‘In time we lose memories, not only the bad ones. As a result we also forfeit some of the good moments, and I believe that in essence we all try to resist that from happening.’
