In this, one of the Denizbank Concerts, the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of the Polish conductor Łukasz Borowicz, will first play Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme, Opus 33, and this same composer’s Nocturne, an arrangement of No 4 of his 1873 Six Pieces, Opus 19. In both works, the solo cello part will be played by Kian Soltani, a Persian cellist born in Austria. In the second half, the orchestra will play Beethoven’s Symphony No 3 in E flat major, the ‘Eroica’, an innovative, large-scale work composed in 1803-1804 that is sometimes considered to be a landmark in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras.
