The exhibition ‘Picturing a Lost Empire: An Italian Lens on Byzantine Art in Anatolia, 1960-2000’ explores the research conducted by Italian scholars on Byzantine art in Turkey and its connection to Byzantine art historiography in Turkey. It showcases previously unseen archival photographs of remarkable monuments in Anatolia. The exhibition, curated by Livia Bevilacqua and Giovanni Gasbarri, heavily relies on the extensive collection of the Center for Documentation of Byzantine Art History (CDSAB) and focuses on four historical regions. It invites visitors to embark on a journey to rediscover the remnants of a lost empire and immerse themselves in the captivating landscapes.
