The Cemal Reşit Rey Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of the lady conductor Nil Vendetti, will first play Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture, written in 1869-70 and revised in 1880. They will then accompany the distinguished Serbian violist Milena Simovič in William Walton’s 1929 Viola Concerto, whose first performance in London was given by the German composer and violist Paul Hindemith. The final item on the programme will be Tchaikovsky’s 1888 Symphony No 5 in E minor, a ‘cyclical’ work with a recurring main theme.
