The 2021 John Martin Lecture of the British Association for Turkish Area Studies will be given by the eminent Ottoman historian Colin Imber, who is also an expert on Islamic law. His talk, ‘The Joy of Fatwas: A Glimpse into the Ottoman Mind’, will focus on fatwas in the Ottoman period, how they were received by the public, and what that reception can tell us about Ottoman society and people’s mindsets.
