Forensic Architecture is not your usual artist group. Originally premiered at the Frankfurter Kunstverein in 2022, Three Doors is now being shown outside of Germany for the first time.
This exhibition is the detailed account of the of three separate investigations of the violent and racist events in Germany. These “doors” represent not only physical barriers but also the deeply entrenched structures of racism that continue to threaten marginalised communities in Germany. By shedding light on these dark chapters – Hanau, Dessau, and beyond – the exhibition forces a reckoning with a society still grappling with its failures to protect racialised individuals, making a powerful statement on the ongoing struggles against institutional racism.
While the exhibition is undoubtedly well-intentioned in its educational aims, its relevance in a politically and socially charged context like Istanbul is open to question.
