Buy a digital subscription Go to the Digital EditionRegis Krampf relocated his gallery from New York to Istanbul in 2012 and took over a three-storey building in Karaköy/Tophane, with the help of his friend, the artist Barış Cihanoğlu.
Krampf Gallery is a regular on the art-fair circuit, and in fact it was Krampf’s success at the 2010 and 2011 Contemporary Istanbul fairs that inspired his relocation to the city. The gallery hosts a number of solo and group exhibitions every year.
The gallery’s roster includes some important European and American artists. The focus seems to be on sculpture, installation art and lighting. Colourful abstract paintings and pop art also make an appearance. Represented artists include the heavyweight British sculptor Marc Quinn; the Czech artist Richard Stipl, who makes life-like clay sculptures; the American sculptor Rona Pondick; the French designer-cum-installation artist Thierry Dreyfus; and the post-minimalist, performance, video and light artist Keith Sonnier. Rounding up the list are the American pop artist Jim Dine and the French artist Yassine Mekhnache, who works in the mediums of painting, drawing and fabric.
