Buy a digital subscription Go to the Digital EditionRudolf is part of the Karaköy revival and transformation into less a Manhattan than a Brooklyn – a less stuffy, livelier part of town (writes Andrew Finkel).
Inhabiting the ground floor of the new Morgans Hotel, 10 Karaköy, the hotel and the eponymous restaurant is the brainchild of Rudolf Van Nunen, an executive chef at many five-star hotels in Istanbul. Come for dinner (booking strongly advised) or sip on a cocktail from the rooftop bar, which overlooks the Bosphorus – and to make sure his guests get the most spectacular view on all fronts, Van Nunen even had the roofs of the buildings in front re-tiled.
A full menu is accentuated by exotic ingredients, from hibiscus to gold leaf, at this new hotspot which has a clubroom feel (continues Andrew Finkel). A pre-meal offering is an excellent duck foie gras, but it is the main courses that really impress. Try the dry aged rib-eye steak or the black cod cured in lemongrass miso sauce. As for the wine list, there is a very decent own-label house red and white, blended to the chef’s taste at the Corvus winery.
Cornucopia 52 has the full review of the restaurant by Andrew Finkel.
