The core of the collection consists of the diplomat, scholar and bibliophile Joannes Gennadius’s 26,000-book library, which he offered to the school in 1922. The library was unveiled in 1926 and is currently under the directorship of Maria Georgopoulou. It offers the richest private collection of books in Greece, numbering some 119,000 volumes. The Cotsen Hall next door provides the library’s state-of-the-art auditorium, seating 370 people.
