A splendid Iznik revival dish, 30cm (almost 1ft) across. It comes from the kilns of the UNESCO-award-winning master Mehmet Gürsoy. In the delightfully drawn design two peacocks are surrounded by hyacinths, carnations and tulips in brilliant relief bole red. The bracketed rim is an effusive take on the classic Chinese breaking-wave motif in the characteristic cobalt blues of classic 16th-century Iznik wares. The high quartz content is what gives the colours their brilliance.
