In 2007 Christa Vogel visited Istanbul for the first time. She was immediately fascinated by a world she has previously known only from stories, and a city on its way to becoming anambitious art metropolis. She sought to portray the city from the inside, from the perspective of its artists. Thirty-four artists are portrayed in their studios and accompanied to their favourite spots. Oscillating between productive chaos and institutionalisation, local politics and globaslisation, Istanbul’s 2010 European Capital of Culture has an impressive art scene to offer.
