I am looking forward to participating in the Chiswick Book Festival this Saturday afternoon to talk about my novel The Adventure of the Second Wife, a tale that revolves around the last great Ottoman Sultan, AbdulhamidII’s fascination with Sherlock Holmes. I will be speaking to Prof. Maureen Freely, a distinguished novelist (and National Book Critic Circle award-winning translator) many of whose own narratives are also set in Istanbul. That is the city where we first met as young teens in the in the late 1960s. Despite this long friendship, we have made a point of not talking about The Second Wife ahead of our event- the theory being that spontaneity is the best policy. So I am expecting a lively, interesting discussion – and to having a great deal of fun.
